Why Ergonomic Evaluations Matter Stop Pain Now Before It Gets Worse
An ergonomic evaluation takes into account your current health and pain symptoms along with the office environment in which you work. During your first diagnostic appointment, Dr. Milione will take a complete medical history and evaluate X-rays. Depending on the initial findings, the chiropractor may evaluate for carpal tunnel syndrome, wry neck condition, or sciatica, or conduct scoliosis testing.
Next, Dr. Milione will also evaluate your workplace environment. Small, simple change to your workplace – adjusting the height of a chair, re-positioning your laptop or phone – can have a profound impact on your posture and reduce your risk for ongoing pain. When sitting at a computer, for example, the angle of elbow should be between 90 and 100 degrees; this is the same angle that should exist for your hip. The height of you chair should be adjusted so your feet comfortable lie flat on the floor or on a pedestal. Your keyboard tray should be lower than the table but not touch your knees. Finally, your wrist should be free in a straight line with your forearm. Dr. Milione will work with you to ensure is in correct alignment with these optimal ergonomic positions.
Dr. Milione is passionate about helping patients reduce their risk for workplace injuries with smart ergonomic care. As a member of NYCOSH, Dr. Milione regularly attends the meetings of this union driven organization in order to be better informed about local and federal job safety issues. Dr. Milione works closely with each patient to convey important, on-the-job safety information and health strategies to reduce the risk for injury and chronic pain. Whenever possible, our Upper Eastside chiropractor strives for a proactive approach to reduce the risk for chronic pain and injury. Should you already be suffering pain due to poor office ergonomics, Dr. Milione will evaluate your workplace environment and help you proactively take steps to reduce or eliminate these issues.
